Can I try to get a tax refund again even though I just filed them last week?

I just recevied a tax form today which allows a student loan interest deduction for my taxes. I didn’t know I was going to get this. I already filed my taxes last week. Can I add this information to increased my refund or is it too late? I am so clueless when it comes to filing taxes. Thanks.

Yes. You can file a correction. Follow up with your accountant, or with the IRS directly…

The best thing to do is go to H & R block and they can help you out. It is better to get answers from a professional. They gurantee their work and will pay any fees in incorrect filings.

Unfortunately, you’re going to have to file an amended return. It’s not difficult. If you go to the IRS.gov website, you can download the form you need. If you filed the 1040a, search for the 1040x. You can also call the IRS. I’ve found them to be extremely helpful in the past.

You can add it, but you’ll have to file an amended return on form 1040X.

This is why you should of waited to file until you received all your information. Now you will have to amend your tax return, but wait a couple of weeks in case IRS catches your mistake, if IRS doesn’t catch the mistake and gives sends your refund, wait to cash it until after you file and amended return and you know you won’t owe, if you owe IRS will request all their money back so you will have the refund available to turn over to IRS.

You’ll have to wait and do an amended tax form, then they will send you the remainder of your refund. It happened to me once and I got another $500.00
