Can I deduct Federal taxes paid in 2007 on my state tax return?

I made a mistake on my 2005 Federal taxes and had to pay about $1000 in 2007 on that 2005 tax year. Pretty sure I can’t deduct that on my Federal return, but can I deduct it on my state return?

Call the IRS (1-800-829-1040) for specifics, but most likely you won’t be able to file a deduction; you’ll have to request a correction on your ’07 (or ’05) return.

To the best of my knowledge, only Iowa allows a deduction for Federal taxes paid.

You are right, back taxes are not a deduction.

No. You can deduct state taxes on your federal return, but not the other way around.
